YellowDog<\/a> is an award-winning studio based in Denver that delivers print, design, and branding solutions for small businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and corporations. Founded in 2005 by husband-and-wife team Jenny and Dan Mulligan, YellowDog is a certified woman-owned business that\u2019s a Bronze Achiever under Colorado\u2019s Environmental Leadership Program, which demonstrates the studio\u2019s commitment to improving the environment in the Centennial State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Challenge: Managing an Increasing Amount of Endpoints for a Scaling Studio<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Over the last few years, YellowDog has doubled in size, growing from 12 to 24 employees during that time. While this growth was no doubt welcomed, it wasn\u2019t without its challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the studio continued to scale, Dan Mulligan \u2014 YellowDog\u2019s \u201ctinkerer in chief\u201d who\u2019s the mastermind behind the company\u2019s tech stack \u2014 quickly realized he was turning into a full-time IT administrator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m the guy who ends up setting up all the computers and doing all those sorts of things because I have a background in tech and am good with it,\u201d Dan said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As more and more employees came on board, Dan was tasked with managing an ever-increasing amount of Mac and PC desktops and laptops, network-attached storage (NAS) servers, and other various machines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEventually, that got to be so much of my job: just managing users and the complexity,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt was non-scalable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Streamlined onboarding and access management<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the past, tasks like giving new employees machines and granting them access to various systems were a massive manual undertaking. For example, Dan might have to grab an employee\u2019s device, log in as an administrator, and add access as needed in what was a time-consuming process. Fingers crossed he didn\u2019t forget the admin password or anything like that; otherwise, the process would take even longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to 探花大神, Dan can make a few tweaks and grant access to resources based on roles, which users can then access right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a shop that uses Apple, Windows, and Linux machines, YellowDog was particularly happy to learn about 探花大神\u2019s Mobile Device Management (MDM) feature<\/a>, which gives the studio much more control over all of the devices the team needs to do great work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe system isn\u2019t complete just using Apple\u2019s MDM; we needed a larger path to manage all these things, and 探花大神 delivered,\u201d Dan continued. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Improved security<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the age of data breaches, identity theft, and cyberattacks, security is more important than ever before. Thanks to 探花大神, the YellowDog team is able to enforce strong security policies to keep sensitive information protected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice to be able to force password security, including two-factor authentication,\u201d Dan explained. \u201cWe can lock our systems down a lot more. Using password managers and a system like 探花大神, we\u2019re able to actually say, \u2018You can use secure passwords without it being a pain.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Time savings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

探花大神 enables Dan to rapidly provision machines, which is particularly helpful when new hires come on board or remote employees come to the office, so they can have access to their familiar environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhenever you sit in front of a machine and you\u2019re doing all this stuff by hand, you\u2019ve got a good hour wasted if not more \u2014 especially if Windows wants to do an update,\u201d he said. \u201c探花大神 makes all of our systems more secure while giving me more time to do the other million jobs I have to do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead, YellowDog plans to institute 探花大神\u2019s SSO feature to save even more time as users don\u2019t have to remember passwords for services like Adobe Creative and Google Workspace. At the same time, this will also further improve the company\u2019s security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Would Dan recommend 探花大神 to other businesses?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Absolutely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
