When enabling Lost Mode from the Admin Portal, you can supply contact information that will appear on the device\u2019s screen to prompt the holder of the device to return it to you. If the device is returned, you can then turn off Lost Mode and restore the device to full functionality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Apple:\n<ul>\n<li>Company-owned (supervised) device enrolled in MDM\n<ul>\n<li>iOS 9.3+<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>iPadOS 9.3+<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Android:\n<ul>\n<li>Company-owned device enrolled in EMM\n<ul>\n<li>Fully managed (Android 11+)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dedicated (Android 11+)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Company-owned with work profile (Android 13+)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Considerations<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Android:\n<ul>\n<li>If a user has recently reset their password within the last 12 hours, Lost Mode functions are restricted for security purposes. This is to prevent bad actors who may have gained access to password reset from exploiting Lost Mode.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After a user manually exits Lost Mode on their device, Lost Mode functions are restricted for 12 hours as a security measure to prevent rapid re-locking of the device.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enabling Lost Mode from the Admin Portal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To enable Lost Mode:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">探花大神 Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>DEVICE MANAGEMENT &gt; Devices<\/strong> and locate the device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From the device details page, click <strong>Actions<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Enable Lost Mode<\/strong>. <br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"448\" height=\"614\" class=\"wp-image-121683\" style=\"width: 300px\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/actions-enable-lost-mode.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/actions-enable-lost-mode.png 448w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/actions-enable-lost-mode-219x300.png 219w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Configure the visible messaging on the device when in Lost Mode by selecting the <strong>Display message on lock screen<\/strong> option and filling in the corresponding <strong>Message<\/strong> field. You can sort this column from the list view to quickly see all devices in your org that have Lost Mode enabled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Device behavior varies based on OS. Jump to <a href=\"#understanding-device-behavior-in-lost-mode\">Understanding Device Behavior in Lost Mode<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Understanding Device Behavior in Lost Mode<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lost Mode behavior varies depending on the device OS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apple<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For iOS\/iPadOS, upon Lost Mode activation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The device is immediately locked, displaying the Lost Mode lock screen configured above.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Home button is not unusable, rendering the device nonfunctional. The device is locked even if it did not previously have a passcode set.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The 探花大神 Admin Portal reflects the <strong>Lost Mode Enabled<\/strong> badge in device details.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>探花大神 initiates location tracking requests every 3 hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Android<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For Android, Lost Mode is divided between alert and active phases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alert Phase<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When an Android device is placed in Lost Mode, it enters an alert phase and emits a loud ring for 5 minutes. No location information is reported. The user is presented two options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"876\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/android-alert-stage.png\" alt=\"The alert stage of an Android phone when Lost Mode is initiated by an IT Admin presents two options to the user: This is my device or I found this device.\" class=\"wp-image-122596\" style=\"width:185px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/android-alert-stage.png 400w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/android-alert-stage-137x300.png 137w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>This is my device<\/strong>: Allows the user to enter the device passcode to exit Lost Mode. If the passcode is entered successfully before the 5-minute timer expires, no location data is reported to 探花大神.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>I found this device<\/strong>: Stops the device ringing and transitions the device to the active phase of Lost Mode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the alert phase, the 探花大神 Admin Portal reflects an <strong>Enabling Lost Mode<\/strong> badge in device details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Active Phase<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the active phase, the lost device stops ringing and begins transmitting location updates each minute. Users are presented with up to three options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"464\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/android-active-stage-464x1024.png\" alt=\"The active Lost Mode stage presents the messaging you've configured when enabling lost mode, as well as unlock, emergency call, and call options (if a contact number was provided).\" class=\"wp-image-122597\" style=\"width:205px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/android-active-stage-464x1024.png 464w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/android-active-stage-136x300.png 136w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/android-active-stage.png 686w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Unlock<\/strong>: Allows the user to enter the device passcode to exit Lost Mode.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Call owner<\/strong>: Initiates a call to the provided phone number (if available). If no phone has been specified in the Lost Mode configuration above, this option is not displayed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Emergency<\/strong>: Gives the user access to the emergency dial pad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the active phase, the 探花大神 Admin Portal reflects the <strong>Lost Mode Enabled<\/strong> badge in device details. Location updates continue to be reported to 探花大神 until Lost Mode is disabled or the device loses connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To disable Lost Mode:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">探花大神 Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>DEVICE MANAGEMENT &gt; Devices<\/strong> and locate the device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From the device details page, click <strong>Actions<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Disable Lost Mode<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From the confirmation modal, click <strong>Disable Lost Mode<\/strong>. A Directory Insights event is logged and the device exits Lost Mode. The user can continue to use their device as normal.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"440\" height=\"254\" class=\"wp-image-122598\" style=\"width: 300px\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/disable-lost-mode-modal.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/disable-lost-mode-modal.png 440w, https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/disable-lost-mode-modal-300x173.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Understanding Lost Mode Events in Directory Insights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Several events are logged specifically for Lost Mode under <strong>INSIGHTS<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Directory<\/strong> in the Admin Portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apple<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>An <strong>mdm_command_result<\/strong> Event Type is logged for the following Request Types:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>EnableLostMode<\/strong>: Confirms successful Lost Mode activation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>DisableLostMode<\/strong>: Confirms successful Lost Mode deactivation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>DeviceLocation<\/strong>: Contains latitude, longitude, and timestamp of device location tracking updates.\n<ul>\n<li>Expand the <strong>mdm_command_result<\/strong> event and click <strong>JSON<\/strong> to view location details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Android<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>GOOGLE_EMM_LOST_MODE_ENABLED<\/strong>: Confirms successful Lost Mode activation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GOOGLE_EMM_LOST_MODE_LOCATION_DETAIL<\/strong>: Contains latitude, longitude, and timestamp of device location tracking updates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GOOGLE_EMM_LOST_MODE_DISABLED<\/strong>: Confirms successful Lost Mode deactivation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GOOGLE_EMM_RESET_PASSWORD_RECENTLY<\/strong>: Indicates a recent password reset, limiting Lost Mode functionality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GOOGLE_EMM_USER_EXIT_LOST_MODE_RECENTLY<\/strong>: Indicates recent user exit from Lost Mode, limiting subsequent actions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GOOGLE_EMM_ALREADY_IN_LOST_MODE<\/strong>: Indicates an attempt to enable Lost Mode on an already locked device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GOOGLE_EMM_NOT_IN_LOST_MODE<\/strong>: Indicates an attempt to disable Lost Mode on a device not in Lost Mode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If a company-owned device is lost or misplaced, you can enable Lost Mode from within the 探花大神 Admin Portal.
