Each user is identified to the device\u00a0by their UID, and usernames are generally used only as an interface for humans. The UID, group identifier (GID) and other access control criteria (POSIX) determine which device\u00a0resources a user can access. The 探花大神 Agent provides a method for manually assigning the UID and GID information for users within the 探花大神 Admin Portal.<br><br><strong>Considerations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UID and GID management for users won\u2019t\u00a0handle conflict management in scenarios where a UID or GID already exists on the devices. This functionality expects that any existing UID and GID assignments with the device are known, and a unique identifier is provided within the 探花大神 configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Duplicate UIDs\/GIDs in 探花大神<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Admins should be aware of the following regarding duplicate (non-unique) UID\/GID entries in 探花大神:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Duplicate UID\/GID values are generally not recommended.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A variety of problems can result from duplicate UID\/GIDs, such as a failure to bind users to devices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Duplicate entries are not the same as UID\/GID conflicts, which will appear as\u00a0configuration alerts, see <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/understand-alerts\">Understand Alerts<\/a> to learn more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> 探花大神 doesn\u2019t prevent you from creating duplicate UID\/GID values and won\u2019t give a warning when you create duplicate values.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where to Find Unix UID\/GID<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>UIDs are stored, along with their corresponding usernames and other user-specific information, in the\u00a0<code>\/etc\/passwd<\/code>\u00a0file, which can be read with the cat command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><code>cat\/ etc\/passwd<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the\u00a0<code>\/etc\/passwd<\/code>\u00a0file, the third field contains the UID and the fourth field contains the GID, which by default is equal to the UID for all ordinary users. UIDs are also stored in the inodes of the Unix file system, running processes, tar archives, and the now-obsolete Network Information Service.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In POSIX-compliant environments, the command-line command\u00a0id\u00a0gives the current user&#8217;s UID, and information like the username, primary user group and group identifier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Enabling UID\/GID Management<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To enable UID\/GID management for users:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the 探花大神 Admin Portal:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the left-hand navigation&nbsp;panel, click&nbsp;<strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under&nbsp;<strong>Security<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>UID\/GID Management<\/strong>, click&nbsp;<strong>Enable\/Disable UID\/GID management for users<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Save<\/strong>&nbsp;if these are your only changes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Configuring UID\/GID Values for Users<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the global setting configured, you can granularly configure users to enforce UID\/GID consistency for all devices\u00a0they are connected to in 探花大神.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To enforce UID\/GID consistency for a user<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the 探花大神 Admin Portal:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the left menu, click&nbsp;<strong>USER MANAGEMENT<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Users<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To enforce UID\/GID consistency on\u00a0all devices\u00a0for a new user:\n<ol>\n<li>Click (&nbsp;<strong>+&nbsp;<\/strong>) to create a new user.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter in the&nbsp;user information.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>User Security Settings and Permissions<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Enforce UID\/GID consistency for all devices<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter&nbsp;values in the&nbsp;<strong>Unix UID<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Unix GID<\/strong>&nbsp;fields for the respective user.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>save user<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>To enforce UID\/GID consistency for all devices\u00a0on an existing user, select an existing user that you would like to associate a UID\/GID with. Then, follow points c through f from step 3 in the previous procedure.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Configuring GID Values for Groups<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the global setting configured, you can associate a Linux group name and GID on 探花大神 User Groups. Any user participating in this group will inherit the GID when devices\u00a0are bound for access to a group with this configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To configure GID Values for a group of users<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the 探花大神 Admin Portal:\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the left menu, click&nbsp;<strong>USER MANAGEMENT<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>User Groups<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To associate a Linux group name and GID with a new user group:\n<ul>\n<li>Click (&nbsp;<strong>+<\/strong>&nbsp;), then select&nbsp;<strong>Create Group of Users<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Name the new user group.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Create Linux group for this user group<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the desired values in the&nbsp;<strong>GROUP NAME<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>GROUP GID<\/strong>&nbsp;fields.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>save group<\/strong>&nbsp;or continue assigning Devices, Applications, and other resources to the user group.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>To associate a Linux group name and GID with an existing user group, select the desired group of users.
