Eventually any event with &#8220;Login Failure&#8221; can lead to an account lockout problem. The information in this article is meant to help you troubleshoot user account lockouts on 探花大神-managed devices. Make sure you\u2019re aware of any compliance or regulatory guidelines pertinent to your organization.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a><\/a><strong>Considerations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Lockouts affect organizations that enforce account lockouts after N failed attempts &#8211; see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/manage-password-and-security-settings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manage Password and Security Settings<\/a>&nbsp;for more information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To clear the lockout counter on a device, a successful login is required on that device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The lockout reset counter is not cleared across all devices that a user is bound to after a successful login on a single device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Users bound to multiple devices may still have recorded failed login attempts on other bound devices.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>探花大神 tallies failed login attempts from devices and the user portal.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Windows UAC generates two failed login events when elevating user privileges, such as&nbsp;<em>runas<\/em>&nbsp;functionality, that count against total failed login attempts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Known Causes of Device Lockouts on Windows-based Devices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Cached credentials stored in Windows Credential Manager (WCM) and web browsers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remote Desktop connections with saved but invalid credentials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Network drive connections with saved but invalid credentials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Printer connections with saved but invalid credentials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Saved Scheduled Task Manager Tasks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Automation testing tools such as Selenium trigger the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bugs.chromium.org\/p\/chromium\/issues\/detail?id=1132052\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chromium defect<\/a>&nbsp;for&nbsp;<strong>every test session initiated<\/strong>, resulting in immediate lockout behavior being triggered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recommendations for Lockout Prevention<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Run automated testing tools on a virtual machine or physical devices that are not managed by 探花大神.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bind users to the minimum number of devices whenever possible. Be aware that Scheduled Tasks that run under the user account can be a source of failed authentication requests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RDP users should&nbsp;<strong>end their session by logging out&nbsp;<\/strong>of the remote system, rather than simply closing the&nbsp;RDP client, or selecting Disconnect from the power options on the remote device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be aware of software packages in your environment that may run as a service under the device user account or add credentials to WCM.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If possible, utilize the \u201cUnlock account after 10 minutes\u201d in 探花大神. This will help reduce the amount of time for the user to regain access &#8211; see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/manage-password-and-security-settings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manage Password and Security Settings<\/a>&nbsp;for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Immediate Corrective Actions&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">User Unlock<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While prevention of recurring lockouts is important, administrators will usually want to&nbsp;immediately to restore access to an end-user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">End User Recovery Option&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The 探花大神 user needs to change their password through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/change-your-user-portal-password\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">User Portal password reset workflow<\/a>&nbsp;using alternate network-connected devices (such as a smartphone or tablet) to restore access to the end user account, user portal, and device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">探花大神 Admin Recovery<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A 探花大神 Administrator will need to unlock the user account from the 探花大神 Admin Portal, which will preserve the current end-user credential.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cached Credentials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is only a temporary solution, as lockouts will recur as passwords are re-added to the cache.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To check for cached credentials in WCM<\/strong>:\n<ol>\n<li>On the impacted device, launch the Run prompt: Press <strong>Windows Key<\/strong> + <strong>R<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insert and run: <kbd>rundll32.exe keymgr.dll,KRShowKeyMgr<\/kbd>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>To clear cached credentials in WCM<\/strong>:\n<ol>\n<li>Click Start &gt; Control Panel &gt; User Accounts &gt;&nbsp;<strong>Credential Manager<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the&nbsp;<strong>Windows Credentials<\/strong>&nbsp;option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then click&nbsp;<strong>Remove<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>from<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Vault<\/strong>&nbsp;(depending on which version of&nbsp;<strong>Windows<\/strong>&nbsp;you are running).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clear cached credentials in the user\u2019s browser(s)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Even when a user enters the correct credentials, there are many reasons an account may be locked out.
